The attempt to climb this mountain was a complete failure. We got off to a bad start, setting off late, and the highest point we reached was Lac de Saslòses, which we never intended to go to. From there, it didn’t look easy to ascend to Montardo. Furthermore, the day began clear but clouded over little by little. Finally, the high temperature made the snow too wet and heavy. In the photo you can see my partner Ricardo Fanjul, just at the beginning of the retreat, when we descended the couloir where Lac de Saslòses feeds the valley at other moments of the year. At least I can say that we had a good, intense descent there.
El intento de subir a esta montaña fue un rotundo fracaso. Empezamos a caminar tarde y lo más alto que llegamos fue el Lac de Saslòses, al cual nunca quisimos ir. Desde ahí no se veía fácil subir al Montardo. Además el día empezó soleado pero poco a poco se fue nublando. Por último, la temperatura elevada puso la nieve demasiado húmeda y pesada. En la foto se ve a mi compañero Ricardo Fanjul, justo al principio de la retirada, cuando bajamos la canal por la que el Lac de Saslòses da sus aguas al valle en otros momentos del año. Al menos fue intenso bajar por ahí.
